We know the work we do has a huge impact on our local communities and wider society, so our vision is for our business to be as sustainable for people and the environment as it is for our shareholders.
Keeping people safe
We are a people business. So it’s only right that we put them first. It’s so important to us, that we’ve made it one of our company Values. It’s what we stand for. It’s what we believe in. It’s what we live every day.
Safety, and keeping people safe, is our absolute number one priority. We work in some potentially dangerous places, like at the side of the road or on live railway lines, so making sure that we’re all looking out for each other – and being responsible for each other’s safety is top of our agenda. Read more on what we’re doing to look after safety here.
Investing in people and skills
Putting people first is also about continuously developing our team, investing in new talent and giving people the opportunities and support to grow.
Whether that’s by supporting young people through apprenticeships or graduate opportunities, boosting skills through the Duke of Edinburgh Award or through our talent tracker programme.

Protecting and enhancing our environment
We understand our planet’s resources are not infinite. We also know how important the environment is to our health and well-being. That’s why we’re so serious about looking after the environment today, and for future generations.
We actively manage our carbon emissions. From better, more environmentally friendly vehicles to driver training. We’re working every day to push down our carbon footprint. And across our whole business, we offer an IEMA-accredited training course so that we’re considering our carbon emissions at every stage of planning and design.
The materials that we use are ethically sourced and, where possible, made from reused or recycled content. For example, we only ever use Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) wood so that we know it’s been responsibly forested. And we procure 100% renewable energy too. We’re also members of Business in the Community’s Circular Economy Taskforce.
And our in-house environmentalist teams partner with organisations, such as Wildlife Trusts and other conservations to protect ecosystems and biodiversity in our communities. These teams also develop tailored action plans for things like road improvement works.
Supporting our communities
We take an active part in our community to make things better. We support the local economy working with local businesses. We’re also proud partners of Buy Social Corporate Challenge to promote and support Social Enterprises in our supply chain. And this is complimented by our Gold Partnership with Enactus UK, to inspire tomorrow’s entrepreneurs.
As well as promoting diversity, we support people who may have found getting a rewarding job difficult in the past, like long-term unemployed, ex-offenders, homeless, disadvantaged young people and ex-service. We work with over 300 ex-offenders, homeless and young people to provide them with skills and support to find employment.
We’ve worked with The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) for almost fifteen years to improve the life chances and employability of young people. We also support STEMNET, a STEM Ambassador programme to inspire young people into Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
And every member of our team gets one paid day per year to help in their local community. We call these community involvement days and they were created because we want to empower people to deliver change in their communities. The Amey Foundation fund supports our team’s charity fundraising too. Through this our teams can apply for additional fundraising from the foundation.
Growing our business sustainably
We’re an ambitious business. And, together, we’re constantly working to create better places to live, work and travel. Part of making this happen is about never standing still, but also making sure that we’re growing our business sustainably. To do this, we have three core Values that our team of 20,000 live by, and our Code of Ethics.
Providing value to our customers
Looking after services that people rely on every day is a big responsibility. By investing in our people, our assets, smart technology and our business, we’re making sure that the public and our customers’ changing needs are at the core of what we do. And making sure that we’re providing value through the high quality, innovative and sustainable services we provide.
Delivering operational excellence and innovation
Our work allows our clients to make better decisions every day. But to make sure that we’re always making things better for generations to come, we use really smart thinking and technology to future-proof the services we provide.
We generate new ideas and new approaches that not only help solve our customers’ challenges but enable us to deliver more efficient and better value services through Smart Projects.
Working as part of the Ferrovial family, we share innovation expertise and best practice through four Centres of Excellence – Cities, Asset Management, Environment and Infrastructure.
And, to make sure that we’re always on the front foot of the latest developments, we have created a new super-team dedicated to data, analytics and technology in infrastructure. The team is the largest of its kind in the UK and will be tasked with taking on some of the industry’s toughest, most complex issues.
